This beautiful wedding ceremony was outdoors, in Pioneer Park with the Kaleden Ruins on one side, and overlooking Skaha Lake on the other. The wedding reception was at the 1912 Restaurant beside the hotel ruins, which features an entrance framed with a very old vine and grapes dangling around you as you enter. It has a lovely patio and yard of its own, and the food was delicious. I am definitely going to take my out-of-town visitors there for dinner. The bistro too, like the hotel ruins, is over 100 years old.
Gorgeous. Despite it being the middle of summer, we had a perfect day with clouds and a cooling breeze. Kaleden is just outside Penticton, so it’s not much of a drive to the venue from anywhere in the Okanagan, really. And the Historic Kaleden Hotel 1912 is such a cool structure to check out. I love that they left it up and made it a little park, instead of demolishing it. Reminds me a bit of the Leitch Collieries in Crowsnest Pass, where all that is left standing is the outer stone shell of the building.
It was a perfect day for a summer wedding in the Okanagan, and the bridesmaids’ purple dresses with sunflower bouquets were wonderfully cheerful.
And the groom’s skull ring is along with the wedding rings in this shot, he wanted a few shots with it included — this was right after the recessional music was Metallica, so everything seemed properly Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Inside the 1912 restaurant, thoughtful, handmade details were everywhere — pretty table numbers that were pieces of art unto themselves, done with nails and string on tiny silver canvases, and the handmade paper flowers that the bride had been working on for months.
The baker did an amazing job making the cake look like a log of wood… the texture on the sides was particularly fantastic. You could barely tell the difference between it and the real wood slab that was the cake stand.
They had a really cute sweets and candy bar that all of the guests enjoyed all evening throughout the reception, with a wonderful variety for everyone.
I had been dying to shoot at the awesome looking hotel ruins, so when Kim of Kim Culbert Photography asked me to second shoot her cousin’s wedding with her, I was super excited to be on board. Thank you so much for inviting me along, Kim!
