In July, the day before my birthday, I had the honour and privilege of being chosen as the wedding photographer for some dear friends of mine, Sabrina and Jeremy. I met Sabrina in design school, and even stayed with her and Jeremy briefly when I first moved to Kelowna. It’s a bit of a long drive from Calgary, but we usually take a trip to the Okanagan in July anyway. So I was more than happy for an excuse to travel back. So happy, in fact, that I always charge a very minimal travel fee for weddings in the Okanagan, all year round.
Sabrina and Jeremy have been a couple for a long time, and decided to take the plunge at last. Their wedding reflected a very easy, loving, and calm atmosphere, and it was a real treat to be able to photograph friends.
Anyway, onto some photos from their day:
S&J did their portrait session before their ceremony, so that they could go pretty much straight to the reception afterwards.
We shot pictures at Father Pandosy Mission…
Another great thing about photographing these two (aside from them being friends) is that Sabrina is a dancer. She brought a prop and showed off her moves!
We also shot at Waterfront Park, beside Lake Okanagan…
The ceremony was at the lovely Belgo Wedding Chapel:
I learned something about shooting outside in the Okanagan in the middle of July — you need to be acclimatized before you do that. It’s been quite a number of years since I lived in Kelowna, and I am definitely not used to the summer heat. Calgary only gets up to the mid-twenties, most of the summer. Despite drinking several litres of water during the day, I still woke up the next morning (yeah, my birthday) with an unbelievable headache that had me in bed all morning. Next time? Hat. And even more litres of water.
Awesome shots and that dance sequence is amazing!
