Calgary DeWinton Community Hall Wedding | Calgary Wedding Photographers

What a fantastic wedding this was, just South of Calgary at the DeWinton Community Hall. The wedding ceremony was held outside, with a big, beautiful tree providing shade for the guests.

When I first met with Shaun and Tracy, our meeting went long because Tracy and I were gushing over a mutual love of making art. The three of us also spent a lot of time talking about the sort of wedding they were planning on having — one that was warm, casual and fun, with lots of kids and laughter, and games to entertain the guests. I shared with them that it reminded me a lot of a fond memory of mine, a relative’s wedding I attended when I was a child — one where the kids had run of the rural home and hobby farm it was held at, with hay bales to play on and delicious food to eat.

So once they chose me to photograph their big day, I was so looking forward to the beautiful and unique details they were sure to have at their wedding. Later, when Tracy asked me if it reminded me at all of the wedding I so loved as a child, I could honestly say it absolutely did. And it was clear all of their guests had a wonderful time. I hope that some of the little ones in attendance will remember this day forever and look back on it fondly too.

Tracy and Shaun are such a sweet couple (remember them from their engagement photos?), they had this to say when I gave them their edited photos:

Oh my goodness! They are the most beautiful photos ever! We had so much fun looking at them last night. I truly cannot describe how happy we are with them. You did an amazing job. Not only did you absolutely capture the magic of the day for us, but you did exactly what we asked for. I am so grateful that you listened to the kind of photos we wanted and made an effort to do that for us. We love every picture. It’s such a perfect mix of the group shots and portraits with all of the candid photos. All of the hugs and laughing and little kids – and bocce! You knocked it out of the park! The ceremony pictures are beautiful and I have no idea how you managed to navigate the semi truck on one side, the dumpster on another, and the 50 guests with their own giant cameras leaning into every possible shot to take their own picture. But you did! You are very very good at what you do. Looking through them last night brought back every feeling we had on what is our absolutely favorite day of all time. I really cannot express how grateful we are. Thank you so much, Lisa!

And I can’t say how grateful I am for getting to work so hard to capture a day for such wonderful people as my clients are. And now onto some of my favourite images from the day:

Both the bride and the groom bucked tradition and each had a group of family and friends act as their bridesmaids and groomsmen — quite a large group, each!

DeWinton is a great place for a wedding, you don’t have to go far to have backdrops of farms and grain elevators and railway tracks.

I loved the handmade circle streamers the hall was decorated with. It fluttered around with every breeze and gust of air so prettily.
