Bow River Ranch is in Springbank, just outside of Calgary. Before Amy and Nate arranged for their engagement shoot to be there, I had no idea it existed. I mean, I know movies have been shot in and around Calgary plenty of times, but a full-on old West town? A pleasant surprise for me, and I could have photographed there all day! It was so, so cool and I was pretty excited. No one around except for us, so it really felt like a ghost town complete with boardwalks and saloon… and even a hangman’s rope in one area (we didn’t take any shots with that).

So, onto Amy and Nate — we had a fantastic time running around the old West ghost town for their engagement session. They thoughtfully brought a few props and were just so adorably cute and in love. It was so much fun!

Here’s the lower part of the old West, one of the areas with a winding mining town… nice place for a sunset stroll I think:

We were losing light pretty quickly at this point, so this was the last shot we were able to get. It was nearly 10pm at this point! Ahh, longer June days are the best. You can just see the Rocky Mountains poking up across the Alberta prairie:
