I was delighted to photograph this beautiful mid-August outdoor wedding at The Ranche restaurant in Fish Creek Park, in Calgary. Everything was a visual feast: the spectacular grounds with its red barn, yellow house, flowers everywhere, the bride’s red wedding shoes and colourful bouquet, the groom’s bowtie and gray suit, and the clear, sunny summer Friday we had. I’ve talked about August light before, it’s wonderfully warm and atmospheric late in the summer, so photographing a wedding during that time of year is a treat. I enjoyed that this wedding was on a Friday, too (love weekday weddings).

Many of the people at the wedding had come all the way from Fort Simpson, NWT. When there was mention of the Dene people it reminded me of North of 60, and that I really need to visit the NWT as well as Nunavut someday. I’ve been to the Yukon as well as Northern BC but not to the other territories. Anyone want me to come up there to shoot a wedding? I’ll do it!

Caitlin is a beaming bride, her smile was infectious and so happy. The little touches throughout were gorgeous, including the hand-made bird napkins at each place setting (I got a chickadee!) and the cheerful flowers everywhere. So here are some of the photos of their day:
